The award was presented by SAG Foundation president JoBeth Williams who announced that Vergara will be the first actor to contribute a bilingual story to their Storyline Online program; a program which has so far generated over 65 million views worldwide in 228 countries and territories.

Williams said, “Her contribution to the SAG Foundation will give back to millions of children worldwide. And that is why we are here today, to honor Sofia with the inaugural Actors Inspiration Award to celebrate her gift of giving back.”

Vergara was honored to accept the award, saying, “[It’s] so lovely to be part of an organization that gives back as much as the SAG Foundation does. Currently, 80% of children in the United States that attend at-risk schools read below grade level. Many of these children are bilingual, but it’s not [just] important to be able to speak the two languages, it’s also important to be able to read and write in them.”
