The Business

“Most actors can’t afford to go to classes and seminars and pay all sorts of things, so what the SAG-AFTRA Foundation provides is a brilliant resource for all actors.”

– Minnie Driver on The Business program

The SAG-AFTRA Foundation The Business program hosts educational seminars for SAG-AFTRA members featuring established entertainment industry professionals who share information and offer valuable insights on the business side of acting – an area that can be overwhelming to newer and seasoned performers.

Presented at our Actors Center – Los Angeles and The New School for Drama in New York, The Business panels provide multiple viewpoints from agentscasting directors and industry experts on topics such as:  Heads Up on Headshots, Transmedia StorytellingMarketing and Audition Technique, Taxes and Financial Planning, Life of a TV Guest Star, Independent Film Producing, New Media, Motion Capture, and Audiobook Narration.

The Business also features Career Reflections with industry leaders including Norman Lear. The Business also takes on present day issues with diversity in Hollywood that includes Beyond Cholos and Chicas: Latinos in 21st Century Hollywood and Acting Beyond Stereotypes: Middle Eastern & South Asian Actors Breaking the Mold.

In a world where technology is rapidly changing, and online content explodes overnight, it’s imperative that actors, voiceover artists, broadcasters, dancers and other performers understand the evolving industry landscape and are provided with the tools necessary to navigate these changes successfully. The Business provides that invaluable resource.

Many The Business events are live streamed and recorded, so whether you can attend a live event in person, choose to view it online, or prefer to access it later in our video gallery, these tools and tips are always at your disposal.

Be sure to also check out our ongoing special series and small workshops:

The Business is free for SAG-AFTRA and Actors Equity members and made possible through gifts, grants and sponsorships. The Foundation never draws on SAG-AFTRA dues or initiation fees.
